Nature is cruel, but we do not have to be.

Nature slaughters it children, this is its way. One species eats another, babies die -- very few make it to adulthood. Famines and disasters wipe out untold numbers.

This is Nature’s way, we must accept it. Life and death, joy and cruelty are part of its cycle. This dynamic has created a vast, vibrant, and diverse ecosystem. Over billions of years the slaughter of Nature has been “productive”.

But while Nature is cruel, there is no reason for Humans to be so. We are the one species that breaks out of the limitations of ‘natural’ love. We do not just love ourselves, but we have the capacity within ourselves to love ALL things, predator and prey alike, big and small alike, beautiful and ugly alike. This makes us quite unique.

Love is a part of our post-natural or Ex-natural behavior. We are a species that is evolving out of Nature. We have qualities that are not natural at all; they are unique “Human” attitudes. We have many of these propensities: art, moral codes, striving for immortality, science and more.

Human Love is not animal love; it transcends to inter-species love, this love is given to all with no exception. This universal love is a purely Human quality, and probably a quality of all intelligent life forms.

Nature created this unusual animal that moves out of Nature into Ex-Nature. It made us a new species that breaks out of the genetic programming of all of the others.

Human Individuals do not have to love all things. Within all of us is the potential to love all. Our species has been on a long trek over millions of years, stage by stage we have broken with older behaviors that are relatively more primitive.

Today we are at decision point; we are on the precipice of a leap. We do not have to subsist in the old ways -- the violent and coldhearted ways of our past. Nature is not our enemy; our powers have grown so large in the modern epoch that our Ecosystem is now helpless before us.

But we can rise above and love all. Then we could protect Nature, all of Nature.
