This course will cover the history, literature, science, and technique of the film industry from its origins in the early 20th Century to today. Students will view and analyze a number of films from various points in cinema history to understand and appreciate the storytelling techniques employed. Students will read articles on the history of film and film technique well as literary works that have been adapted to film for the purpose of comparing the source version to the filmed product. Students will also examine the historical context of certain films to see how the real-world current events of the time influenced the content of the movies. .
