Sgraffito Clay Tile

The assignment was to take a blob of clay and flatten it into the shape we wanted it to be. Then we drew out what we wanted our design to be on scratchboard and then drew that design on the tile after it had dried. and the black stuff had dried as well. The subject of my creation is a wolf. I used scratchboard tools to scratch out my design.

I used line to show the actual design of my project; I used contrast to show the contrasting colors of the black, white and gray. I was originally going to do an Alaskan inspired design, but I couldn't find one that I liked so I changed it to more of a Native American-Irish sort of thing ???

I really like animals and art from different cultures so I wanted to do a mix of that for this project. I'm proudest of how the wolf turned out; I was a little worried that I would have a hard time making it actually look like a wolf. I struggled in making the designs look "flowy" and not all choppy. If I could fix something, it would be that I would add more designs or move them closer together because it looks empty in some parts.
