The assignment was to go outside and pick up a few leaves, flowers, or anything else we could find, but leaves were recommended. Then we taped the leaves down and picked a square that we would focus on to draw. I picked the raspberry leaf and focused in on the middle of it. First, I outlined everything I saw and then added the smaller, more detailed lines. I sort of made the whole thing look like cells, which is more abstract than what it actually looks like.
I used line to create all of the individual lines and value accompanies the lines because I made the lines thicker for the stem. I also darkened the lines at the bottom and then started to lighten them as I went up the leaf. First, I wanted to do the flowers, but I couldn't get the shape right and there was a lot of white space, so I decided to do the fern. But then I didn't like how the fern came out so I then did the last leaf I had: the raspberry.
I'm proudest of how abstract and different the whole drawing looks. Other people used color or pen, but I prefer the graphite. If I could change something, it would probably be to maybe make even smaller "cells" and make it even more detailed. I might also add colored pencil, just to give it more value and color.
