Color Design

The assignment was to create a painting using 84 different colors- the shades and tints of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. It could be anything we wanted, we just had to have 84 sections of color. The subject of my painting is a skier at the Olympics in 2014. I first sketched out the design on paper and then transferred it to my canvas. I started the background first and then the Olympic rings. I used acrylic paint and graphite pencils.

I used color to create my whole piece of art. It was required to have color, so especially used that in my painting. I used line to separate out the different colors and to make the stripes of the snow. My project pretty much stayed the same, except that I was going to leave the snow white, not blue.

We started this project around the Olympics and when I was going to the State meet for nordic. So I thought it would be fun to do a project related to nordic so I would remember it better in the future. I'm proudest of the skier because the colors are very clean and you can't see the brushstrokes. I struggled with the background because I didn't know how to do the background. I think that I would put more layers of paint on the Olympic rings because you can still see the brushstrokes.
