Linear Perspective Room

The assignment was to draw a room in one point perspective. It had to be a room we created, but we could get inspiration from pictures from the internet. We had to make sure everything was going toward the point of origin. The subject of my creation is obviously the room itself, but it really focuses on the fireplace and the stuff in the middle. I made sure to use a ruler and sketch everything out before I went over it with a fine pen and then I colored it, to make it seem more realistic.

The elements of art I used were color, line, and texture. I used color to make the room seem more realistic and make it brighter. I used line to create the straight lines of the room, and make it seem more like a room (which is hopefully what it looks like). I used texture to make the wall and floor boards look like wood. The principles of art that I used were emphasis and balance. I used emphasis when I made certain things stand out, for example, coloring darker where I wanted things to be noticed. Balance was used when I used different colors of brown for the walls, floor and ceiling. I didn't want there to be too much of one brown color, for fear of it being a little boring.

I really like looking at lodges on pinterest. For some reason, they just really appeal to me. I wanted to create my drawing to be like a ski lodge, because I ski. It was fun to create my own ski lodge and I didn't get sick of it (sometimes I get sick of doing a piece of art for a long time) because I could make it be whatever I wanted. I think I'm proudest of the color work. I usually don't like to color my art, but I think the color is a nice touch. The part where I struggled with most was probably the windows and the ceiling beams. It was hard to get them to be in perspective. But I practiced drawing windows in perspective and I asked for help. Something that bothers me with this drawing is that you can see the old pencil marks and how they were "engraved" in the paper. I also think I could have improved on making the furniture look more realistic.
