share the magic

I have a unicorn in a magical forest with fairies flying around it. This fits because my slogan is "share the magic of life with organ and tissue donation". I wasn't exactly sure what my statement was going to be when I started this project, but I knew I wanted it to do with magic. I normally draw realistic animals and I wanted to do something different - a unicorn.

At first, I was going to do watercolor so I chose watercolor paper, which was rather unfortunate because I then decided to use colored pencils in the end, which made it difficult to color on the watercolor paper because it was so textured. I really had to push down and burnish more than I normally would. Before I started drawing, I needed a reference image. I went onto shutterstock and chose three images (a horse, a forest, and some fairies) and I cut them out of their original settings and used Acorn to make them one image. I used a grid to make sure everything would be proportional. I used Olive Green (PC911), Dark Green (PC908), Chartreuse (PC989), Grass Green (PC909), Black (PC935), Pink (PC929), Lemon Yellow (PC915), Burnt Ochre (PC943), Sienna Brown (PC945), Light Umber (PC941), Dark Umber (PC947), and True Blue (PC903). I used a 2B graphite pencil to sketch out the design.

First I sketched out the design using a pencil and a grid. I went box by box to color the trees and went through the whole page before going back and burnishing. The horse in my reference image I made was black, but I realized a black unicorn isn't very cheery so I changed it to white and added the pink and blue in the mane. If I were to add something, I would want to add some glow around the fairies somehow.
