I was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night. The little coronaviruses are the stars and the statue of liberty is the tower/tree thing. For the landscape, I first had a lot of city buildings, because cities are the hardest hit areas. I also have some little houses that are spaced out to represent the rural areas of the US. Starry Night is a very popular work of art, so I thought it would be interesting to do a play on that. I also wanted to play around with old pieces of art, I brainstormed with American Gothic and The Girl With the Pearl Earring.

I used Prismacolor colored pencils, specifically: Canary Yellow (PC916), Neon Orange (PC1036), Mineral Orange (PC1033), Cloud Blue (PC1023), True Blue (PC903), Violet Blue (933), Celadon Green (PC1020), Crimson Red (PC924), French Gray 20% (PC1069), French Gray 30% (PC1070), Warm Gray 20% (PC1051), Metallic Silver (PC949), Light Peach (PC927), and Light Green (PC920). I also used a 2B graphite pencil.

I first looked at the original composition of Starry Night and sketched that on my page. Then instead of the tall bush thing, I drew the statue of liberty; instead of the stars, the little coronas, and then drew a city and little houses. I used the yellow and orange colors to match the red flowery things on the coronas. I was originally going to make a cartoon-like drawing of a battle against a dragon that looked like the corona virus, with healthcare workers as the knights, but it wasn't coming out right so I decided to do something art history related. If I could change something, I would want to add a little more detail to the city.
