Concentration #1

The assignment was to pick a concentration to focus on throughout the rest of the quarter. I picked chickens; so I decided to use the same style for this as I did last year for my lion. I made a base out of cardboard and then layer it with more cardboard and cut out pieces of magazine for the coloring. I tried to use a variation of colors to make it look more stained glass-like.

I used texture in the tail because I cut out larger pieces of magazine to look like feathers. I used balance in the different colors and how I made one color fade into the other. Originally, I was going to make the chicken be able to stand and make it full bodied. But I couldn't figure out how to do that without it bending.

I really like chickens and roosters are full of colors so I thought it would be nice to use one for this project. I'm proudest of how the colors work with each other and how the different magazine pieces work with each other. I struggled with trying to figure out if I should make it more 3D, so I added the regular pieces of cardboard on top of the tail to make it pop out more. If I could add something to make this sculpture stronger, I would make it a little bigger and make it even more 3D.
