Stars and Stripes

The assignment was to create an image using red, white, and blue, line, rhythm, and pattern. The subject of my creation is a soldier holding a cross with a flag behind him. First, I cropped the image and then sketched it out on a piece of paper. Then I added watercolor, and I tried to work on the different values in color.

I used line in the stripes, pattern and rhythm in the stars, and color in the red and blue. First, I was going to do a soldier and his mother in front of a military cemetery, but I didn't like how it was coming out so then I tried to find a new image. I found a black and white image of a soldier and then used that to create my art.

I really liked the cross /religious aspect of the image, so I decided to use it. I'm a catholic, so it was pretty meaningful to me as an individual. I liked the different values of the color and the shading is decent; I'm not really good with watercolor so I'm proud of this. If I could change something, I would add more detail to make it look more realistic.
