Emotion Designs & Patterns

The subject of my creations are three species of cats: tiger, lion, and a cheetah, with a realistic half and a zentangle half. First, I sketched the outline of the face and contours and other basic details. Then I split the paper in half and darkened the lines and added in the zentangle patterns. I used thinner lines and more white space to represent the white parts of the face and thicker and more close together lines to represent the darker parts of the face. I used a 2B graphite pencil to sketch it out, and then went over the patterned side with Micron pens to darken it; I just used graphite with different values for the realistic half. I chose to do animals because I really like drawing them and I was hoping to incorporate an animal in the project, which I did; I also like to do realism, which I also used.

I used different line widths to show value and contrast. At first, I was going to do the whole face with designs, but then I thought it would be cool to have one side of the face be normal, which actually turned out to be pretty nice.

Tigers have always been my favorite animal, so thats what I started out with. After I finished that, I moved onto a lion, which I also like, and then a cheetah, which I don't normally draw. The only thing I would change is the cheetah. I didn't have a lot of value or shading done well in the realistic half of the face.
