Modified Contour Drawing

The assignment was to draw our hand holding something and to make the lines vary in width and darkness and try to make it be as realistic as possible. The subject was my hand holding a coin. I first made a sketch/outline of my hand and then went over it, adding details and making lines finer. I used my three favorite types of pencils: B, 2B, and 4B.

I chose to use a coin because there are so many ways you could hold the coin. I tried to make the lines in the coin very fine to show that it is man made and the hand is something that is "human" and humans aren't perfect. I also tried to fill up most of the page, only leaving a about a few inches on either side.

The thing I am most proud of in the work is how realistic it looks. I personally don't really like complimenting myself or my art but I'm actually really happy with this. I struggled in making the coin look as man-made as I could. If I could make this look better, I would make there not be as many sketchy lines.

The assignment was to take a shoe and draw it from three views: side, front, and top. We had to make it look as realistic as possible. The subject of my drawing are the shoes. I made sketches of each of the shoes and then went over the lines and darkened and lightened certain ones. I used B, 2B, 4B, and, 6B pencils.

I chose to do my boots because I think they have some really cool designs and they were something different from the other Nikes and Toms in the room. I used line and movement in making my lines flow better and be darker and lighter. I also chose to draw my cowboy(girl) boots because I used to ride horses and that was something I loved but had to stop because I hurt my knee. I am most proud of my side view because it has a lot of detail and the line value is decent. I struggled in the top view because making it look 3D was very difficult. I would make my front and top views bigger to improve my overall piece of art.
