Cyanotypes

DESCRIBE: The subject of this image is the landscape. The setting is the St. Johns River. To create this image, I used an old photo from a hunting trip I went on and added a greyscale then inverted it to print a transparency. After I printed my transparency, I put a piece of cyanotype fabric on top and put it under glass in the sun for twelve minutes. After that, I rinsed the fabric in water for five minutes and left it to dry. This was the final outcome. I chose to create this image because it had to be a landscape and I figured that an open landscape would work best with the blue tint it would have. On one half of the image, is just water. The shoreline and trees balance it out.

ANALYZE: This image shows the composition high horizon line. The horizon lines is more towards the top of the image due to the way it is angled. It also shows the composition low key lighting because the image appears dark. I didn't end up having to change anything for this image.

EVALUATE: The meaning behind this image is to show that there are two sides to every story. This river has places where on one side, it's Maine and the other is Canada. This relates to my life because I have two brothers which means a lot of arguments. They are always two different sides to the story and my parents never want to hear either . I think this image could be stronger if the white/yellowish spots were not there. The fabric got some chemicals from the dark room on it which made it turn that color. I need to be more careful next time.
