Altered Negative

DESCRIBE: The subject of this image is the scratched sun. The setting is my backyard. To create this image, I used the negative and a paper clip to scratch a sun into the image. I scratched the negative and then made my print in the darkroom. After developing and drying the image, I scanned it and got this. By adding the sun, it contrasts from the rest of the image. I also added it to fill in the space in that area of the photo.

ANALYZE: This image shows the compositions ant's eye view because the image is taken from a lower point and angled up. Originally, I was going to scratch random lines onto the negative but then I noticed the blank space in the sky of the image so I added my own sun.

EVALUATE: The meaning behind this image is to show that you can do something if you set your mind to it. I thought this image would look better with a sun, so I added it. At a more extreme level, I beat cancer. I had a positive mindset and was determined to get through it, and I did. You have control. I think this image could be stronger if the trees were more clear and the sun was more visible. I didn't know how hard to scratch the negative, so I wasn't sure how it was going to come out. Next time, I would scratch it a little harder.
