Geometric Shadows

DESCRIBE:

The subject of this image is the shadows that the fence creates against the wall. With the sun shining on the fence, it creates shadows of geometric lines behind. To create this image, I put the photo into photoshop and added a gradient map and from there, I painted the color back onto the dying plant to provide contrast. I chose to create this image because as I looked around for shadows, I saw this pattern and I figured it would work perfect to include the back lawn as a landscape. The lines that the shadows created were very bold and formed an interesting pattern that also drew me in.

ANALYZE:

In this image, I used the composition leading line because the fence aids in leading towards the background and trees. I also used selective focus by using my camera to focus on the fence and flower and make the background slightly blurry. Originally, I was going to leave the image in black and white but it felt too boring so I tried to think of something to add emphasis or contrast and putting color back on the plant did that.

EVALUATE:

The meaning behind this image is to see the beauty in not-so-beautiful situations. When I went searching for this photo, I didn't figure I would have a very successful final product because of the weather. The snow has partially melted and is dirty and there's no color anywhere because it's winter. I have lived in this house my entire life and never really paid attention to the rose bush in this fence because it rarely grows. Now that I've seen this side of the rose, it makes it seem so much prettier. Even though it is winter and the plant is dead, it still remains there. I don't think I would change very much about this photo other than maybe a slightly different angle to see the shadows better but it was difficult to include them while also including the trees and lawn in the back.
