Organic Forms & Patterns

DESCRIBE:

The subject of this image is the texture on the tree. The setting is the woods. I created this image by climbing up this dying tree in my backyard and focusing the camera on the bark patterns and making the background blurry. I then highered the light brilliance and lower the highlights on the photo app and got my final image. I decided to create this image because the strange pattern on the wood interested me. I had the original idea of doing the same thing with normal bark until I saw the different designs and textures in this photo. The image is arranged close up to the side of a tree with a landscape of trees in the background.

ANALYZE:

I used the composition rule informal balance by having the tree be on one side of the image with many trees on the other side. I also used the composition selective focus by unfocusing the background of the image and having it only focused on the tree. I originally had a photo of a tree that was alive that I was going to use until I saw the uniqueness in this tree. I changed this image so the colors stuck out more because it gave the image more life.

EVALUATE:

The meaning of this image is to show that we can't judge someone based on what we see on the outside. You have to break down their protective layers before they can reveal their true self. As this tree died, its bark got torn down and it revealed what was underneath, the thing we don't usually see. This project relates to my life because a lot of people, including myself, has had to deal with fake friends in their life. You see one thing on the outside but on the inside they aren't who you think they are. If I were to revise this image I would probably want to mess around with editing the light and focus.
