Resilience is very important when you are going through a hard time and you need to get past the difficulties. Resilience means to me that you work really hard to get past hardships and move on with your life. Jackie Robinson used this quality when his brother died and he stayed strong and continued to become a athlete at UCLA. I used this quality when I went through a really hard time not too long ago. Resilience helps Jackie Robinson and I get through hardships to make the world a better place for younger generations to come.
When Jackie Robinson first showed up at the baseball field he showed resilience when he was hated by the many baseball fans, “The small crowd was tense and angry,” it says on pg.34 from “Promises To Keep” by Sharon Robinson. Even though the crowd was angry when he went on the field he used resilience to play with confidence. Sharon Robinson writes, “My father stole home during one game...” pg 34.. If Jackie Robinson didn’t show resilience when he first stepped on the field then he probably would've not had the confidence to play. But because he had resilience he was able to break the color barrier in major league baseball.
I see this quality in myself when I have to deal with something hard. I have needed this quality when my parents fought a lot for personal reasons. t was really hard for me but I pushed through and I was happy again. When I was a child, I remember hearing my parents fight over little things and it always hurt me but I found a way past all the sadness I used to feel. I want to show other people going through what I went through that they can move on with help from others. I want to make a change with resilience. I want people to know I’m strong and I’m not going to give up. I want people to know resilience will help me make a change either today, tomorrow, or six years from now but I will make a change.
In order to make my personal resilience into a brand, I had to make a specific design choices. I chose Eagle Lake as a font because it was bold and it went with my word. I also added a shadow and a reflection because in my past, people have underestimated me. The shadow represents me leaving people’s comments about me behind. The reflection represents me looking into the future and the difference I will make. Then I chose a navy blue because I thought it looked like strong and bold and I really thought the color stood out after testing many different types of blue.
I want to help younger generations get through tough times just like how Jackie Robinson encouraged younger people when he played baseball even when he was hated. Resilience is important to me because having this quality helped me at so many dark times. Leaders of social change like Jackie Robinson all had to use resilience to get through the hate they received by many people who didn’t support the leaders’ claim for change.
