Empathy is an important characteristic of people who lead social change. Empathy means when someone helps someone else when they are feeling sad. People who lead social change need to show empathy because empathy means being kind to others and checking-in with people and how they feel. Showing empathy is similar to compassion, but different because empathy is expressing compassion and asking them if they're okay. Empathy helps me and Jackie Robinson change our world and make it a better place by helping others.

Jackie Robinson was a leader of social change because he helped break the color barrier in major league baseball. He showed empathy along the way by caring for his wife and he also cared for his daughter Sharon Robinson. One time Jackie Robinson showed empathy was when he retired from baseball and helped his community. In Promises to Keep by Sharon Robinson, it said, “He traveled around the country raising money for the nation's oldest civil rights organization. The first year of his tour, he helped raise up more than $1,000,000 ” (pg. 52-53). This shows that empathy is important because it helped Jackie Robinson make a difference.

I show empathy in my school by helping other kids. One example is when I help kindergarten with their math and writing number sentences. I do this every Wednesday after service crew. I go downstairs and go to Mrs. Short’s room and help her students with their work. In my service crew I also show empathy. I am trying to help people stay fit and at the end of the year, my service crew is hosting field day. Field day is an outside party where we aren’t on our computers, and we’re doing activities. Another way I use empathy is by helping kids who struggle or need some help during the school day. I ask them if they are okay and if they need any help. I will use empathy to make good changes in my community by helping others the best I can.

I chose Ruslan Display because the font is as strong as a mountain and you have to be strong to be kind. I added a shadow because even though people are not being empathetic to you, you have to be empathetic to them. This can be very hard and the shadow shows that darkness. I also chose blue because it represents peace, loyalty, honor, and trust. I chose green because it green is calm, relaxing, and safe.

Leaders of social change must have empathy because Jackie Robinson showed empathy on his baseball team to the other baseball players. This matters because If you are empathetic then you can make others feel happy and feel like they want to follow you.
