Confidence means understanding yourself and the decisions you make. It means believing in yourself and making others believe in you. Confidence is similar to being brave, because for both you are able to take a risk and feel good about it. Confidence is different than being brave because confidence supports you when you are nervous or scared. Jackie Robinson used confidence when he stepped onto the baseball field when people hated him. I show confidence when I am in a scary environment and need to believe in myself. Jackie Robinson and I both use confidence to believe in ourselves.

Jackie Robinson showed confidence by believing in himself and playing baseball. In Promises to Keep by Sharon Robinson, on page 35 it says, “Despite the threat on his life and the weight of people on his shoulder, Dad completed his first year with the Montreal Royals as a Most Valuable player.” Jackie Robinson showed his daughter how to be confident too. On page 7 of Promises to Keep, it says, “He stood firm even when his opinion wasn’t popular.” Jackie Robinson was confident because he walked onto the field even if people said bad things about him, he never gave up on himself.

Another person who is confident is me. An example where I used confidence was during math. First I was in Ms. Ali’s class, and the class was going slower than I wanted. When I do my work I go fast and I push myself with math because I believe in myself. Then, I moved to Ms. Armstrong’s math class and I was on fire! I knew what to do and when Ms. Ali kept asking if I needed help,I said no because I knew I could do it and I got it. When my teachers asked me if I would want extra help in middle school, I said no because I believe in myself.

In order to make my personal confidence into a brand, I had to make specific design choices. I chose permanent marker as a font because it is bold and when I am confident, I am strong. Then I chose purple as the color because it stands out and I stand out too.

Confidence helps both Jackie Robinson and I create a better world. Confidence is important because you should believe in yourself. Leaders of social change must have confidence so they can keep doing what they love. Confidence helps them do this by not giving up on themself when something is difficult. Confidence allows me to believe in myself even when school is difficult. It is important to have confidence because if you believe in yourself, other people will too.
