Determination means that if you try your best you will succeed. Determination is similar to being brave because for both you are taking a risk and feel good about it. Determination is different than being brave because determination supports hard work. Jackie Robinson used determination when he broke the color barrier in major league baseball and I show determination by finishing my work, even when it is difficult. Determination helps Jackie Robinson and me by getting us through hard times.

Jackie Robinson showed determination when he got hate notes because fans did not like that he was playing major league baseball since he was black. In Promises to Keep by Sharon Robinson, on page 34 it says that the fans said they were going to kill him if he did not get off the field. In Promises to Keep Robinson says on pages 6-7 that “My father was famous. My brothers and I grew up among awards, trophies, and photographs, but our parents taught us not to worship these honors.” This shows that Jackie Robinson was determined because he did not want his children to be rude and brag, but instead he wanted them to have a normal life and be good people. He had to use determination to do that because raising your kids to be good people takes a lot of time and hard work.

Another person who shows determination is me. In school we do service crew, which is a crew that is trying to help the community. For my service crew, we needed to do green screen videos and WeVideo videos to help the community be healthy. They were difficult because there wasn’t a lot of time to finish them, and we had to make multiple drafts. During this time, I learned I was determined to finish my work even if it is hard. My math work and my literacy work is also challenging. I can use determination to study more to get smart and to work hard.I can use determination to be a leader of change by working hard to make sure that the cafeteria will serve healthy food.

In order to make my personal determination into a brand, I had to make specific design choices. I chose Shojumaru because the font looks like it is being pulled up and down, and that’s how I feel when I am struggling in class. I added a shadow and reflection because I feel like things get darker and darker when I struggle through something. I chose gray for the shadow because it reminds me of a raining day and rainy days can get darker or lighter like when I struggle and use determination. I chose purple, black, and gray for the font color because purple reminds me of success, black reminds me that I’m almost there, and gray means that I’m done for and I will need a lot of determination to finish something.

Determination helps me and Jackie Robinson make the world better. Determination is important because if you did not have it, you will give up and never keep growing. If there was no such thing as determination, important people like Jackie Robinson, or me, would have given up on ourselves. Determination will help me to never give up on my goals or beliefs.
