My personal quality is courage. Courage means to take a risk no matter how dangerous it is. It also means to be brave and fierce. Courage is similar to determination, because for both of the qualities you are able to take risks. Courage is different than determination because when you use courage you are being more brave and fierce than when you use determination. Jackie Robinson used courage when he was on a team that did not like people of color. I used courage when I was scared to go on stage. I'm in folklórico I dance Mexican dances I have been in folklorico for 5 years and I'm still scared of being on stage. I use courage by going on stage and trying my best. Courage helps me and Jackie Robinson change our world and make it a better place.

A leader who demonstrates this quality is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson forced himself to make things right even if they were hard this shows that jackie Robinson showed courage by trying his best even if things were hard. On page 38 of Promises to Keep it says, “While Dad’s teammates grew to appreciate his contribution to the team, they ignored him off the field. For the first couple of months with the Dodgers, Dad stayed to himself or with one of the black sportswriters. He said he felt the loneliness most when the team traveled.” Jackie Robinson was still playing baseball even with all the hate letters he got because he was courageous. Page 34 of Promises to Keep said, “NOTE WE HAVE ALREADY GOT RID OF SEVERAL LIKE YOU ONE WAS FOUND IN RIVER JUST RECENTLY ROBINSON WE ARE GOING TO KILL YOU IF ATTEMPT TO ENTER A BALL GAME AT CROSLEY FIELD THE TRAVELERS.” This shows that Jackie Robinson shows courage because he still played baseball. Jackie was able to break the color barrier by using courage.

Another person that uses courage is me. I used courage when I'm dancing in folklorico in my recital. An example of a time I used courage is when I had to dance in front of a huge crowd in folklorico. I was so scared that I even wanted to run away and never come back. Even though I was scared I used courage and went out there and did my best. I messed up sometimes but no one noticed. I had so much fun being in stage with my friends and getting to see my family. When it was the end of my recital I was happy that I got to participate and have fun. I will use courage in to make a positive change in my community by not being afraid to stand up for what I believe in.

In order to make my personal courage into a brand, I had to make specific design choices. I used the font Black Ops. I chose that font because courage is being determined and brave so that font represents each of those things because it reminds me of the army. I chose the color black for courage. I chose that color because the color stands for brave, smart and determined. The color also stands for being strong and never giving up.

Courage helps me and Jackie Robinson make the world a better place. Using courage is important because when there’s a problem and there is no leader someone can use courage to be that leader and solve that problem even if it is hard. Leaders of social change must have courage because they must take a risk to make a change. They also need courage because if they need to speak their word to everyone so they have to talk to strangers and big crowds and that takes a lot of courage. Courage allows me to be a leader by helping people even if it is very hard.
