Joy to me means, even when you are sad or stressed or depressed always try to be happy! Try to think of the good things in life even when things get tough. Showing joy is similar to feeling pleasure because you are happy and you are feeling good. Someone can still show joy when something bad has happened to them or when someone has done something nice for them which, can make them happy again. Jim Abbott showed joy when he got into minor league baseball at a young age. This accomplishment brought him joy. I used this quality too when I went through a dark time. Joy helps me and Jim Abbott make it through hard times.
When Jim Abbott was little, his family found out that he had a undeveloped right arm from his elbow down. When Jim got older he got into sports, and his parents wanted him to play a sport without the use of his arms but he had an interest in baseball. Jim Abbott was joyful when ever he was discouraged. In “Jim Abbott” by EL Education on page 2, it says, “he kept hearing that his playing days would probably end at that level. But at each new level, Jim proved his doubters wrong.” Another time Jim Abbott used joy was when he felt happy when he got in to his start of playing career in baseball. “At the age of 11, Jim joined a little league team and threw a no-hitter in the first game he pitched.” Jim showed that it doesn’t matter if you are different, you can be happy and try to succeed your dream.
Another person who shows joy is me. Two years ago and a little bit of last year, I went through a dark cloud of my life when I had to move and everything went all downhill. We were settled in and everything, but it just never felt like home because my parents fought pretty much every night. It made me very depressed, but I tried to use happiness because I always thought of the good side of life. When we moved back it took a year to finally feel normal again. But then my dad got cancer. Because he stayed on the East coast so I never got to see him through his battle with the disease. That made me sad as well, but I always tried to focus on joy and the bright side of things.
In order to make my personal Joy into a brand, I had to make specific decisions about the design of my campaign sign. First, I had to choose a font type that would show my special kind of Joy. Through my experiences, I realized that Joy is not about always looking happy, but being happy on the inside and always trying to be as happy as you can. Joy is also trying to be on the high side of life even when things get ow, then getting back up again. My font shows the creative side of me and how I express myself which brings me joy. I used Knewave and Finger Paint to show my creative side the best. Next, I had to choose a color that would represent Joy. My experience with my parents divorce was a very dark time but I got through it with Joy, so I wanted light colors. I chose a dark yellow, a pale blue and a pale purple. I chose a dark yellow because it's the color of joy and that's what I needed. Pale blue because it means sadness when things got down. A pale purple because purple means the color of peace, creativity, and stability. I also chose to add a shadow because it means something can get you down but you can always stick through it. Those are the decisions I made to make my personal Joy into my brand.
Joy is being happy through difficult times and not giving up. This quality is important because all people need to be happy and think of the good things in life even when things get tough. Leaders of social change must have Joy because they will have to push through tough times and be happy about what they have and not what they don’t have. I think Jim Abbott succeeded in that. Joy allows leaders of social change to make a difference even when things get tough. It is important to recognize because you want to be happy when things get tough and when things get hard.
