Bullying is when a person feels like they have the power to say and do whatever they want to someone else and hurt their feelings (Fluck, 2014). Bullying can cause a negative short or long term effect on people. Studies have found that there is more than just physical bullying, it's another one called cyber bullying , which happens through the internet. Research on bullying in school was labeled as an aggressive act. There was a test with middle school students in Germany on bullying. Both groups claim that ideology and instrumental violence play a little role (Fluck, 2014). Reasons on why people become bullies were mostly due to factors such as revenge, wanting to insinuate sadism or assert power over another individual.
Bullying had a huge impact in schools in recent years, because there is so many cases on kids committing suicide to being bullied at schools (Rosen et al., 2017).This is supported by the rise in suicides in schools across the country. Teachers need to stop the bullying from happening in hallways, classrooms, and the lunchroom. Students feel the need to bully other students so they can be the bad guy and have all the kids scared of them. Sometimes students would bully the students that may look like they are going through something at home or pick on the quiet ones.
In order to prevent bullying in school it must be talked about in a school. A group started two prototypes for educational games on bullying. The two games are different because one is allowed to be more open and explorative, while the other uses a linear narrative. This group made the game because nowadays youth are all on social media. So social media plays a big role in bullying now. There are many workshops against bullying in schools but they only focus on theoretical facts and code of conduct (Rigby, 2012). Feedback shows that the game was very useful for supporting communication in class about this topic.
As an upcoming teacher I feel the need to have a topic on bullying and what the outcomes could be to their fellow classmates. I think no student should be bullied on what they wear or where they come from and especially if they are not a people person. Bullying has taken a big toll on young students my age and under and it is sad because students did not get to finish living their life as child or a teenager due to people being selfish and thinking it okay to hurt other kids' feelings.
