I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas with my mom and older sister. I moved to Norfolk, Virginia three years ago. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have some really great teachers who inspired me to follow in their footsteps and helped me grow my love for learning.
Some of my influences include my family and friends. My mom is one of the most hard-working people I know, and she is a living example that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
As I've grown older, I've learned I'm an emotional person. I used to view it as a weakness because I didn't understand why I felt certain things. However, I now view being in touch with my emotions as a good thing because it has taught me a lot. I know how to be empathetic because it comes to me naturally, and I know as a teacher, I will definitely need to be empathetic with my students in order to understand them and their actions. Additionally, I know the importance of listening to others and the world of difference it can make when one's voice is heard. I plan to truly hear my students out and give them my undivided attention when they speak to me.
Next, I know it's important to grow as an individual and remain ambitious throughout life because that's what helps us become the best versions of ourselves. I plan to teach my students to always want the best for themselves and work towards their goals. Lastly, I know that it is okay to make mistakes. In fact, it's necessary in order to grow. I will teach my students that mistakes are not always negative and often lead to success as long as we learn from it.
Because I am just entering this field, there are many things I have to learn in order to be a great teacher. However, I am excited to learn and turn my weaknesses into my strengths! I plan to research and learn from my peers/ mentors in order to achieve this goal.
The teacher I will become aims to teach my students the qualities listed to the left. I not only want my students to leave my classroom with academic knowledge, but I want them to leave with good morals as well. Both are important, and I want my students going out into the world as good individuals. I will make my classroom student-centered because the goal of school is to help students learn. The focus is on them, and I will adapt to their needs.
1. I absolutely love your page! You did a great job organizing it and it is very creative. I like how you want to teach your children not just the curriculum but how important life morals as well, I think that is very important. Children learn so much about life inside and outside of the classroom, so I think it is important that teachers set a great example for their students.
2. Hi Gabby! I think how to Interact with parents Is going to be one of the hardest things because sometimes parents are so quick to blame the teacher when things do not go right. I'm a Jr. this year also. Good luck to you. -Alli M.
3. Hey Gabby!!!! I love your page. I love the creative you put into your page. I want to teach the same level of student as 3rd - 5th grade I feel like at that age they are starting to understand more. I wish you nothing but success in life - J'Asha Lee
4. Gabby's page was really inspiring in the sense that she embraced how she's more emotional. I think having a teacher who is understanding and accepting of that is so important in today's world. Gabby is going to be a great support to her students because she understands from personal experience that sometimes feelings don't make sense,
5. Hey Gabby! Your page is very aesthetic and it's very organized, so I love that. When you mentioned how you have recently started to get in tune with your emotions, I felt that. I always viewed it as a weakness but it's actually such a strength. I know that your students will be so lucky to have you as teacher because you would definitely show that you are their for them not just as a teacher, but as a friend too.
6. Hey Gabby, your page spews happiness and positivity somehow before even getting to reading it. Probably the colour choices and graphics.
But mainly what I learned from this page is under your What I Have to Learn poster. The part about how to interact with parents strikes heavily because even I didn't ever think about probably the hardest part of the job will probably be interacting with parents who might not have the same views as the child. Whether they are first-time parents or established parents, they might all have different expectations of their child that the child, us, and them might not be on the same page about.
Definitely will be a journey for all of us. Good luck on yours! - Kweku
8. Hi Gabby, your page is so bright and welcoming and your personality shines through your pictures of friends and family. I have a bestfriend who is literally my other half, she has been such a role model in my life. With that being said, your page of what you have learned was very touching because she has helped me through my journey of finding myself and working on my emotions. It's important people learn that being emotional isn't a weakness but to live life unapologetic and staying true to yourself and not changing your way for others. Thank you for sharing that! - Deyalit Ayala
