I am a junior at ODU majoring in History (specifically world history) and an unofficial minor in geography (working on getting it official) and I was born and raised in Gloucester VA. I moved to Norfolk and I currently live alone now (which is stressful!). I am 21 years old. I have one sibling who is my brother and he is an aerospace engineer. Some things I like are video games, re watching shows I have already seen, and recently I gained a knack for bike riding (especially in the fall and winter). I have been considered eccentric but in reality I like to keep things simple. I believe I am good at a lot of things but I am never an overachiever, I like to stay in my lane so to speak.
I have ADHD
I built my desktop computer from scratch by myself
I collect history books
I have 2 cats named Luna and Apollo. I also have 3 dogs Honey, Buddy, and Toby. I would say I prefer cats, I have had mine for 4 years and I couldn't ask for a better pet.
I work at Busch Gardens
I am addicted to all things horror and Halloween.
I know how it feels to be unfocused and hyperactive and I will be able to work with students who struggle with that.
How to show compassion
How to respect others, my students, and my faculty.
I know that everyone has their own way of learning
How to engage with students needs and how to talk with students.
I know that students have their own way of learning so that being said I need to learn how to create an environment that will cater to every students uniqueness.
I need to learn how to work with students with learning disabilities
This goes without saying but I have to learn how to teach a lesson and how to create a lesson as well.
Nice presentation. I appreciate how you mention having ADHD and encouraging those who happen to exhibit those signs of being unfocused and work with them to overcome that. Makes for a relatable connection that can resonate with students as well. -Rahni Davis
Hi Tanner! I think that it is awesome that you want to teach knowing the struggles of having ADHD. History books are definitely a cool collection. One thing that really stood out to me was the fact that you want to figure out a way to have an environement that will fit everyones needs. - Jordan Burt
Hi Tanner, I loved what your presentation was about. I feel that it is important to be passionate about what you are teaching because students can tell. This will motivate them to be excited to learn about each topic. It is amazing how you can relate to the struggles of ADHD and how you will be able to relate to other students in that situation not many can. -Trinadie Corral
Hi, Tanner. Wow, your brother is an aerospace engineer?! Incredible. My son would call him "big brained" for sure. I also need help to work with students with learning disabilities. I can be good at conversation with them, but need so much help to lead them academically. It seems so challenging. - Cheryl H.
Hi Tanner! I think it is really great that you will use your experience with ADHD to help your students who also struggle with it. As someone who also has ADHD, I know how important it is to have a teacher who is understanding and willing to work with me. You seem like you will be an understanding teacher. Good luck to you! - Alanah Rose
