Teaching Latinx Students
By: Yasmin Gonzalez
Learning topics:
The student should be able to understand the Importance of having a bilingual teacher in the classroom.
The student should be able to define ESL.
The student should be able to understand different teaching methods.
Reflection and Conclusion
In conclusion there are many different ways to help Latinx students from the way we teach to the way we help, such as cooperative learning and culturally-responsive teaching. Using technology with Latinx students can help them with pronunciation with online textbooks and websites. ESL is important in many different ways for teachers, students, and parents. “Studies have shown that students who do ESL increase memory capacity and prevent the deterioration of the brain’s function over time” (Angela, 2020). Statistic reports state that “Bilingual Latinx teachers reported using more effective mainstream and culturally responsive teaching practices compared to non-Latinx teachers” (Castro, 2017). Teaching these students new information will help them in the future for success. As future educators, I believe that it is our job to pick the best recourses for our students to accomplish their goals.
