My name is Kayla Weekley. I am a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, family member, dog owner, future teacher and so much more. These words define me, they make me who I am and shape the person who I continue to become. I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA and continue living here today. I graduated from Green Run High School and am currently attending Old Dominion University to earn my Bachelor's in Elementary Education.
I know how to create organized and informational documents such as letters to parents, PowerPoint presentations, informational flyers, and more. I really enjoy the website www.canva.com and have made a lot work that I am proud of by utilizing their web 2.0 tools.
I have experience working with young children, but it's always been on a personal level where I know their parents and have an understanding of their background. I know that as a teacher I will encounter student's parents/ guardians that are from different backgrounds than myself and have different experiences and perspectives than I have. I think a major thing that I need to learn and excel at is making sure students and their families feel represented and understood so that I can keep our student/teacher and student/parent/guardian relationships professional and positive.
I always say, "I want to be the type of teacher that students deserve." I understand that can be a very vague thing to say. There is not a specific type of teacher role that is appropriate for all students. I want to be the kind of teacher that recognizes the needs of the individual student and who is capable of adapting their teaching based on each student's needs to create an equitable learning environment. I recognize that a teacher's role is not just an educator; it often extends to being an advocate, disciplinarian, counselor, event manager, mediator, cleaner, role model, and many more things. I want to be deserving of these titles and I want to become the teacher that my students deserve.

Kayla, I love what you said about being the type of teacher that students deserve! That phrase really spoke to me in that I completely agree and hope to do the same. I couldn't agree more that recognizing all of our students' needs is one of the most important part of being a teacher. It was super fun getting to know you through your Author's page. -Kearsten Rice
It sounds so awesome to get to work with kids that you really understand their background. Some teachers really go into to teaching for all the wrong reasons and it looks like you understand that it isnt a job for the weak, Great job on your page.
Hey Kayla, for starters I want to say that I love your name lol! I think it's great that you're so good with technology, this will be super helpful for your future career. Also, I think it's great that you've had experience working with children. I've had some experience too and it's been a big help, so I know it's the same for you. Overall, great work and good luck this semester! -Kayla Chambers
