Who Am I?
Hello, my name is Kayla Chambers! I am a junior at Old Dominion University majoring in Early Childhood Education PK-3. I was born and raised in Richmond, Va to two loving and supportive parents. I have one older brother and two fur babies. I've always knew I would incorporte children into my career but I just recently decided I wanted to become a teacher. Over the past year, I've held two jobs working in childcare. My first job was at a local daycare center in my hometown, I was the head teacher for the kindergarten and first grade class. My second job, I worked alongside Petersburg City Public Schools as a member of their 'Student Support Team' at an outreach program geared to educate and provide support for the youth and their families. If it wasn't for me landing those two amazing jobs, I wouldn't be where I am today!
Oliver AKA "Ollie" or "Old Man"
He was my first baby, got him when I was 7 years old. He's 13 years old now!
Olivia AKA "Livi" or "Babygirl"
She was my birthday gift in the 6th grade, she's 8 years old!
What I need to learn:
How to help students who don’t want to be helped!
New and more effective way to teach math!
How to create lesson plans including my ideas and children’s idea while following school’s curriculum.
How to have an open and fun environment without allowing the kids to manipulate me.
How to say NO!
How to utlize technology more!
How to not procrastinate!
Better time management skills! (I’ve gotten way better!)
How to be more confident in myself and my work!
What I Know:
Learning is more than studying for standardized test!
Learning can be fun if taught properly!
Be engaging!
Reading and writing is some of the MOST important skills!
Build connections!
Be open to change!
Allow the children to have a say so on how they would like to learn, sparks their interest!
Have fun, no one wants a boring teacher!
Incorporate children’s interest in lesson plans!
Be fair, NEVER show favoritism!
The Teacher I Will Become:
Feel free to leave any comments!!!!
I have to start out by saying, your dogs are adorable! I believe that your experience in child care and as a member of the student support team at the school you worked at, will definitely provide you with a valuable perspective when you become a teacher out on your own. I think your experience really shows in your "What I need to learn" and "What I know" sections, especially when you said you need to learn "how to say no" and "allow the children to have a say so on how they would like to learn." I think these statements really encompass experience with children. - Kayla Weekley
2. Hey Kayla! I like that you included a lot of moving parts in your page like GIFS. I related to a lot of your "What I know & What I need to learn" points. I feel like as a teacher it is about balance between strictness and kindness. Along with mentioning standardized testing because school isn't all about them. I think your page is nicely organized and thought out.

Hey Kayla!! Your page is so cute I love it. I see how you some experience with children already and that's great. The teacher I aspire to be is amazing and the way to did to your name is awesome . Nice meeting you and wish you nothing but success in life. -J'Asha Lee
Hi Kayla! Your page is absolutely adorable first of all. One aspect that really stood out to me what the fact that you brought up that learning is so much more than studying for the standarized test. Many teachers are teaching towards this and sometimes forget that learning can be fun. I also think that it is great how you already have experience working with children. I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors! - Jordan Burt
