I am Jackson Robles and I'm currently a Junior at Old Dominion University. I am a History major with a concentration in teacher preparation. I grew up in Columbus, Georgia and stayed there until I joined the Marine Corps at 19. I served for just under seven years and got out to be closer to my son and to work on a college degree. My son(Luke) is four years old and is excited about turning five in two months! Me and my girlfriend(Megan) also just bought a house together in April. I chose teaching because I have a passion for History, as well as being a coach and mentor to others. Given my experience in life, I feel like I have a lot to share with others.
I will need to learn to how to integrate everyone as a whole and not always focus on one student at a time.
How to relate and assist a students' needs when need be.
How to keep students wanting to learn more and light a spark inside of them.
Learning about history will never stop. History is made daily.
How to make a meaningful impact on every students life who crosses my path and comes to my classroom.
How to deal with students who might be disruptive and disrespectful to other teachers, students and myself.
The teacher I become will always strive to be there for my students. A classroom isn't just a learning room, but it can actually feel like a second home to some students. To some it gives them a relief from their home life and that works perfectly for me. My classroom will be an open space where students can come in confidence and feel like someone is listening. I will strive to help students learn and understand my subject even if that means staying later at working and helping tutor groups. I will also acknowledge that mental health issues can affect anyone and that they can always talk to me. In my classroom, I will strive to help students value their education. If a visitor walked into my classroom, they would see that everyone treats each other with respect and courtesy. They will see that students are engaged and will debate with each other on certain topics. Overall, I just want them to see that I love teaching and helping the next generation of kids.

3) I loved your about the author page. I agree with your sentiment on needing to learn how to get kids interested in learning, as that is also a goal of mine, and sometihng I will probably struggle with. I also appreciate the amount you try to support your students, especially with distracting them from home life, letting them talk to you about their problems, and make students feel ike someoe is listening, and I want to try to incorporate that into my classroom as well. I appreciate the creativity of your author page! - Kellie Wiltrout
