Who I am
I am from Hampton, Virginia. Ever since I was little, my mother have always worked with children and she fostered my interest in teaching. My elementary teachers were an influence for me as well. Knowing that students always need good teachers is what has been pushing me. I have done community service and most of the hours were spent on working with young children. I have as well been apart of several organization such as the 100 Black Men of America, National Council of Negro Women, and the Delta Sigma Theta GEMS. They have each taught me in different ways and it has helped me to how I would like to teach my students one day.
What I know
I know that students need a good role model in their community. They need good teachers to help them foster their love for learning. Every one is different is while learning, it is the teachers that help the students learn to their greatest potential. Students can also learn how to help and understand each other and their differences by following how we lead with each other and our peers. We as a community are raising the children and how we raise them through the years will have an impact on what our future will be. It starts now.
What I have to learn
I still have to learn about how there are many different ways of doing anything that comes with school and teaching. Being open more and listening when it comes to the opinions of the people who are around me with different experiences. In turn, I can help my students to listen to each other instead of just hearing each other, seeing through each other eyes. Each day, I can challenge myself to learn new ways to teach my student to engage them with what they're learning. I know it is an ever going journey, but I can always learn every day.
The teacher I will become
I will become a teacher who's students can work with anyone and can find something to relate to with the other person. I want my students to be able to build skills and knowledge before going onto their next part of their journey within school. They will learn in various ways so that everyone can fully understand what they just learned. I want them to learn how to problem solve and learn what is happening around them to interest them into finding out more about it. I want my students to be bright, inventive, and curious. I want people to see students who are taking interest within themselves and in the others around them. I want to be able to spark a light within all of my students.
