First, you set-up the problem by writing the multi-digit number on top.

Next, you write the one-digit number underneath the last digit, and draw a line underneath.

Then, starting with the right column, multiply the two numbers. Write the answer underneath. If it's a two-digit answer, write the second digit underneath the line and the first digit on top of the next digit of the top line.
