For example, if F(x) = x2 , it would become x2 + 1
For example, if F(x) = x2, it would become -x2
For example, if F(x) = x2 , it would become x2 - 3
For example, if F(x) = x2, it would become 2x2
f(x) was translated down to create g(x)
f(x) was reflected over the x-axis
f(x) was dilated
f was reflected over the x-axis and translated down
You will use the assignment we did yesterday:
Graph the parent function on the same coordinate plane (maybe in a different color)
Describe, in words, what transformation(s) have occurred to the parent function to make it into the function you have
As you work: try to notice if you can make any generalizations. Do certain changes to the parent function ALWAYS create a translation? A reflection? A dilation? Can you make any generalizations about the direction of those things?
CHALLENGE: Problem (c) is already the parent function. Can you find a quadratic function that will REFLECT this parabola over the x-axis and TRANSLATE it 3 units down?
