A proportion is a statement that two fractions are equivalent (equal).
when two fractions have an equal sign between them, it's only a proportion if the two fractions are actually equivalent. How can you tell?

There are two options! We have already learned one:
If you can multiply the numerator and denominator of one fraction by the same number and get a the second fraction, they are equivalent!
There's another way! It's called cross-multiplication:
Multiply the numerator of one fraction by the denominator of the other, and then multiply the other two. If the two products are equal, you have a proportion!
Let's do some examples:
1/2 and 2/3
4/11 and 3/6
8/10 and 4/5
2/6 and 3/9
