Solve this:
-2x + 7 > 11
How is this process the same/different than the vertical line method?
How is solving inequalities different from solving equations?
They are almost identical! The only difference is that you need to flip the inequality if you multiply or divide by a negative number. This does NOT apply to addition or subtraction!
NOTE: When you graph inequalities, you use an open circle for < or > and a closed circle for greater than/less than or equal to.
Let's do some examples:
NOTE: Try the following things to solve these inequalities:
Distribute (get rid of parentheses)
Combine like terms
Get all the variables on one side and the numbers on the other (vertical line method)
Don't forget to flip the inequality when you multiply or divide by a negative!
Work with a neighbor if you want. Work on your own when you're ready!
