I can find the equation of a line given a slope and a point.

Today, we are going to use the vertical line method!

So far, we have learned several different ways to find slope. What are they?

We have also learned to write an equation in slope-intercept form from a graph.

What do you do if you are given the slope and one point?

here's what you do:

1. Replace the "m" with the slope.

2. Put your point (x, y) in for "x" and "y" in the equation.

3. Now, the only thing you don't know is "b." Use the vertical line method to get b by itself (so, "b = ___" ).

4. Now that you know "m" and "b," you can write your equation!

Make sure you leave "x" and "y" as variables when you write your final equation.

1. Has a slope of 3 and passes through the point (0, 3)

2. Has a slope of -1 and passes through the point (-2, 5)

3. Has a slope of 1/2 and passes through the point (4, 3)
