Which piece goes where? How do you know?
What are congruent figures?
They are figures that have the same size and shape. When two figures are congruent, they can slide, flip, or turn to fit exactly one on top of the other.
How can you tell if two figures are congruent?
You have to compare their corresponding parts. Corresponding parts of congruent figures are congruent. Corresponding parts are the "matching" parts of the two figures.
NOTE: When you write congruent figures, you have to put their names in the same order (so corresponding parts match up).
EXAMPLE: What are the corresponding parts (angles and sides) of the two figures?
Assuming the two halves of the SR-71 Blackbird are congruent, what is the measure of angle F? What about angle D?
Are these two triangles congruent? Justify your answer for all 6 corresponding parts.
