What is a parent function?

Function: a mathematical relationship between a set of inputs and a set of outputs. For example:

f(x) = 3

f(x) = 5x2 + 2

f(x) = 4 cos x

f(x) = 5 + |x + 4|

A = πr2   or   f(r) = πr2

Parent Function: the simplest form of a family of functions that preserves the definition for the entire family
