Overview: Look out for the winter iReady assessment scores! These scores provide a measure of student growth and achievement, allowing parents and guardians to track progress in reading and math from August to January of the current school year. Please review the growth reports and let us know if you have any questions.
Overview: Trimester 2 ends in two weeks, making this the perfect time to check in with students, review their progress on Schoology, and create an action plan for success. A helpful strategy might include a calendar with checklists and daily reminders to keep tasks on track.
While some students are self-guided and require little assistance at home, many benefit from additional support. Middle school is a crucial time for developing strong academic habits, and having a clear plan with guidance from an experienced adult at home can make a significant difference.
Strategies for Support:
Weekly Check-Ins – Set aside time to review assignments, grades, and upcoming deadlines together.
Visual Organization Tools – Use a planner, whiteboard, or digital calendar with color-coded subjects and task lists.
Daily Study Routine – Establish a consistent time and quiet space for studying and completing assignments.
Break Tasks into Steps – Help students break larger assignments into smaller, manageable parts with clear deadlines.
Encourage Self-Advocacy – Guide students to email teachers with questions and seek help when needed.
By implementing these strategies, students can build independence while ensuring they stay on track for a strong finish to the trimester.
Overview: The NCS School Board, based on clear research and state policy, has determined that personal cell phones no longer serve our students positively during the school day. To help with this transition, students have had five weeks of instruction to adjust to the new rules.
Moving forward, students who disregard the policy will be required to check their cell phones and headphones in at the office for the rest of the day. It is essential that parents and guardians support this policy by reinforcing expectations at home.
How Parents and Guardians Can Help:
Communicate at Appropriate Times – Please refrain from texting or calling your student between 8:15 a.m. and 2:40 p.m.
Remind Students of the Rules – If your student contacts you during school hours, gently remind them of the policy.
Model Patience – Encourage students to wait until after school to check messages, reinforcing self-discipline and focus.
Discuss the Benefits – Help your student understand that staying off their phone during school promotes learning, improves face-to-face social skills, and protects them from unfiltered online content.
The benefits of keeping students engaged in learning far outweigh the inconvenience of waiting to communicate. Thank you for your support in helping our students stay focused and present during the school day.
