The promotion ceremony will begin at 6:00 pm. Seating is first-come, first-served. Students may not reserve seats for family. Parents are able to arrive up to one hour early for parking and seating. After the promotion ceremony, students are dismissed to celebrate with their families. All students are expected to know and follow the details below.
All 8th-grade students will participate in promotion practice at the following times:
Monday, June 5th, 8:30 - 9:30 am
Wednesday, June 7th, 10:00 - 11:00 am
We expect students to be present and demonstrate calm and respectful behavior during practice.
The promotion ceremony is a celebration of your accomplishments throughout Middle School. Student work will be honored in front of family and friends.
All 8th graders participating in the ceremony must adhere to the Natomas Charter School dress expectations found on page 25 of our school’s student handbook. You will want to look nice for the ceremony, so avoid ripped clothing and jeans if possible.
Students may wish to wear a dress, skirt, and blouse or dress slacks and blouse. Dresses should not be formal. Consider what you might wear as a guest to a nice wedding when thinking of attire. If your dress has spaghetti straps, a T Back or is strapless you must wear a sweater or jacket while at school and during the promotion ceremony. Think about the length of the dress or skirt as well. Students will be sitting in front of an audience and want to feel comfortable. Students may be tempted to purchase heels for the event. Keep in mind that students will be walking in front of a large audience several times during the ceremony.
Students may also choose to think “business” when dressing for promotion. Jeans and T-shirts are not appropriate. Dress slacks and a collared shirt are the traditional dress. Many like to wear button-down shirts with ties. Ties are not mandatory.
Qualifying 8th graders will be headed to Six Flags for their 8th-grade trip. This trip is meant to be a celebration of our students’ time here at Leading Edge. This trip is subject to academic and behavioral qualifications, so you must meet grade and behavior expectations (as outlined in the student handbook) to attend the trip.
Date: Thursday, June 8th
Time: 8:15 am - 4:30 pm
Cost: $60 donation - payable on My School Bucks
The last day of school will include a parent-hosted brunch for our 8th graders. This brunch will be held in the LMC and will include good food and lots of memories. Students will give formal and impromptu speeches and toasts. We will watch a video of memories and enjoy our last day together. 8th graders will then head to the gym for some music, games, and dancing.
