Our life skills programme is designed to equip pupils with the essential knowledge, habits, and practical competencies needed to thrive with independence, resilience, and responsibility beyond school. Learners will develop the ability to manage personal organisation, money, health, relationships, and community engagement. The programme places equal emphasis on confidence, self-awareness, and practical skills, ensuring that pupils are not only prepared for academic success but also for the demands of adult life.
The curriculum promotes problem-solving, decision-making, and reflection, enabling pupils to navigate real-world challenges with confidence and adaptability. By embedding opportunities for teamwork, communication, and social responsibility, it supports pupils in building positive relationships and contributing meaningfully to their communities. A strong focus on inclusion and accessibility ensures that all learners are supported to achieve independence at their own pace.
In Year 9, pupils are introduced to independence by developing personal organisation, responsibility, and money awareness. They begin to explore healthy routines, kitchen basics, and food preparation, gaining confidence in daily self-management and household responsibilities.
In Year 10, learners build confidence and practical skills by applying budgeting and banking knowledge, developing travel and safety awareness, and learning how to plan and prepare meals. They deepen their understanding of independence through applied tasks such as journey planning, cooking, and managing responsibilities, while reflecting on habits and strategies that promote resilience.
In Year 11, the programme prepares pupils for adulthood by focusing on independent living, digital and online safety, health and wellbeing, and active citizenship. Learners examine the challenges of managing change, reflect on their personal identity and responsibilities, and apply their skills in real-world independent living challenges. The year culminates in opportunities for pupils to showcase their learning, demonstrating readiness to navigate life beyond school with confidence, responsibility, and independence.
