Purpose
To work together as a pair
Objective
To toss a water balloon to someone else without breaking it
Materials
Water balloons
Line markers (cones, chalk, etc.)
Bell/Timer (optional)
Recommended Group Size
8+ persons
4+ per team
Estimated Time
15+ minutes
Preparation
Mark two lines ten feet apart from each other.
Mark more lines five feet back from each of the original lines. That is, if the original lines are at 0’, mark lines at 5’, 10’, 15’, and so on.
Fill water balloons with water. Make enough balloons so that each pair has one.
Procedure
Split into teams with an even number of members, then pair up with someone. If there is an odd number of participants, then the facilitator will also participate.
Have each pair face each other, each standing along one of the original lines.
Give one water balloon to each pair.
The facilitator counts down from 3, and then everyone tosses their water balloon to their partner once.
The facilitator checks to see which pairs still have balloons intact.
All pairs who haven't popped their balloons will move back to the next line. Both members must move back one line each.
After each toss, the facilitator must check and tell pairs to move back.
Each round ends when:
The last line has been reached; the team with the most pairs left standing wins.
Only one pair is left standing; that pair’s team wins.
All balloons have been popped (i.e., all remaining teams pop their balloons at the same line). The team with the most pairs remaining wins. It is a tie if the pairs are all from different teams.
Continue for as many rounds as time allows.
Notes
If there aren't enough people for teams, then have participants split into pairs.
