Materials
A ball of yarn
Icebreaker Sharing Questions
Recommended Group Size
10 - 20 persons
Estimated Time
30 - 40 minutes
Purpose
To work together while learning more about one another
Objective
To keep the web from breaking
Procedure
Have participants spread out, leaving a good distance between one another.
The facilitator holds one end of the ball of yarn, shares his/her name and answers an icebreaker question, and tosses the ball to a participant.
The participant with the ball shares his/her name and answers the icebreaker question.
After answering the question, the participant holds onto the yarn, making a taut line, and tosses the ball to another participant.
The participant cannot toss the ball to the person next to them.
When a participant receives the ball of yarn, he/she must summarize what another participant said, including his/her name. The first and second participants do not summarize and participants cannot summarize what the previous one just said. After summarizing, each participant will share their own answer.
Activity continues until all participants have shared.
Optional: Take a group picture of participants with the web before taking it apart.
Variations
Each participant shares one challenge he/she has, then the next participant gives words of encouragement and shares one challenge he/she has.
Notes
Try not to make the sharing too long.
Make sure that participants do not continue sharing a single person's answer.
