Recommended Group Size
10+ persons
Estimated Time
20+ minutes
Purpose
To get to know each other and to get a little exercise
Objective
To move around and get a spot before other people do
Materials
Some kind of object like chalk to mark or draw the spots on the ground.
Procedure
Have enough spots for all the participants but one since one individual needs to be in the center to call the category/topic.
Everyone will start off in a spot and the participant in the middle will shout out a phrase like "everyone wearing blue," or "those with more than two siblings," and things like that.
Everyone who fits in the category/topic that the middle individual shouts out must find another spot. The middle individual will also have to try and find a spot.
The person who does not get to a new spot becomes the new middle person (or if the middle individual still does not find a spot, that participant goes again as the middle individual).
Repeat the process until the facilitator decides the activity is over.
Variation 1
You may add a punishment for the person who cannot find a spot like small physical things (jumping jacks, push-ups, squats, etc.) or make them recite a memory verse.
Variation 2
No specific area needs to be marked.
Everyone called must run to the middle and do rock, paper, scissors with someone else in the middle.
The winner returns to the circle. The loser has to continue rock, paper, scissors with the other people.
The last one remaining is the new caller. Punishments for the last one can be implemented.
To make it more icebreaker like, participants have to say each other's name before rock, paper, scissors or, if they don't know each other, they have to introduce their names.
Make sure the facilitator makes it clear of either rock, paper, scissors, or rock, paper, scissors, shoot! But just rock, paper, scissors is better.
Notes
The facilitator may also participate, but a facilitator is needed to decide when the game will end.
