Recommended Group Size
4+ persons
Estimated Time
15 minutes
Purpose
To interact with one another
Objective
To not get eliminated
Materials
Bell/Timer (optional)
Procedure
Have the participants stand in a circle facing inward, and designate one person to be the starter.
All the participants will say the starting chant together before beginning the game. See video below.
The starting person will start by saying the number, “1,” and in a clockwise manner, each subsequent person will count upward continuing until someone messes up.
Whenever the number has a “3,” “6”, or “9,” that participant must clap, and cannot say the number.
In the case of doubles, triples, etc., (33, 36, 63, 96, 336, 369, etc.) the participant must clap twice or thrice respectively.
Once someone messes up a number or the clap, that person is eliminated.
Eliminated participants must answer a spiritual sharing question.
The facilitator can choose to use the questions provided on the spiritual sharing questions page or create his/her own themed questions. 1
The remaining participants in that group will start again after the sharing until the next person is eliminated.
You may choose to keep using the same starter, or start with someone different.
If the starter gets eliminated, then someone new will need to start anyway.
The facilitator must decide how long the game will go (last one standing, last 2, last 3, etc.).
Repeat as many times as time allows.
Variations
To make things more difficult, you can add different actions to do for different numbers like jumping for multiples of ‘5’.
Notes
The facilitator may participate in this activity.
1 You can think of this activity as just a standard, “sit down and share” activity, except with this activity paired with it to make it seem like it’s not just a sharing session.
You may divide participants into smaller groups, but the activity is playable for any group size. It is still recommended, however, to have at least 4 players in each group.
Keep in mind, the larger the group, the longer the eliminated players will have to wait to play again.
