Recommended Group Size
04-16 persons
Estimated Time
20-60 minutes
Purpose
To get to know everyone
Objective
To guess the right answers and get the most points
Materials
Pen or pencil (1 per participant), paper, and a container.
Procedure
Cut up small slips of paper for people to write.
Give everyone 3 slips of paper, and have him/her write 1-6 Biblical-related words for each slip.
Once everyone is done writing, each participant will put the slips in some sort of container and mix it up.
Gather everyone to sit in a circle. Every other participant in the circle is in the same group, so there are 2 different groups.
The first round is taboo. Each participant gets a minute to draw out the slips of paper (one at a time) and hint at the word(s) on the paper without saying the word(s) on the paper. The people on the person’s team will try to guess the words on the paper. If a team member gets it correct, then he/she keeps the paper. If not, the members can continue to guess. Each participant can only “pass” one slip once in a round.
When the minute is up, the next participant (going clockwise/counterclockwise) will do the same (draw out slips of paper and hint). This continues until all the slips have been gone through once.
At the end of the round, tally up each team’s score, and put all the slips back into the container.
The second round is similar to the first round, but it is played as charades. Each participant gets a minute to draw out the slips of paper and act the word(s) out without talking. The people on the participant’s team will try to guess. This round may be quicker because everyone should be familiar with what is written on the slips.
At the end of the round, tally up each team’s score, and put all the slips back into the container again.
The third round is like the first and second rounds, but it is played with onomatopoeia/sounds. Each participant gets a minute to draw out the slips of paper and make sounds that relate best to the word(s) without acting or saying words. The people on the participant’s team will try to guess.
At the end, tally up each team’s score and conclude.
Variations
Bible related rounds and non-Bible related rounds.
Notes
The set number of slips of paper for each person may vary.
