Estimated Time

Purpose
To learn how to support one another
Objective
To rearrange without coming off the "log"
Materials
A curb or masking tape (optional)
Bell/Timer
Procedure
Have the participants line up randomly shoulder to shoulder on the curb. Depending on the fellowship, the facilitator can decide whether to separate the participants into two groups based on gender. 1, 2
Mark the ends of the “log” five inches from the first and last persons’ feet.
Announce the time limit and one of the following task:
Line up by birth date: January-December/December-January
Line up by age: youngest-oldest/oldest-youngest
Line up by height: shortest-tallest/tallest-shortest
Line up by distance of home from fellowship location: closest-furthest/furthest-closest
Line up by shoe size: smallest-largest/largest-smallest
Etc.
Silently, the participants line up in order according to the category. If any participant falls off the curb, then everyone must return to their original order and start over.
The facilitator rings the bell when time is up and verifies the order. If the participants have not lined up correctly, they must complete a punishment to be decided by the facilitator.
The participants stay in their current order and the facilitator begins the next round by announcing a new category.
Continue as time allows.
Notes
1 This activity may be done on an actual log.
2 If there is no log or appropriate curb, then use masking tape to mark two parallel lines to represent the “log.” Use the biggest shoe size among the participants to determine the width of the “log.” Ask participants to line up shoulder to shoulder. Mark the ends of the “log” five inches from the first and last persons’ feet. Participants cannot step outside of the masking tape when moving around or they will have to start all over.
