How to remove duplicate submissions

The Turnitin engineering team have advised that the issue of the duplicate submissions shown in the Moodle Direct Submission Inbox seems to be caused by the API being queried while it is waiting for an Originality Report for the paper. It generates a row with the status "pending."Once the Originality Report has generated when querying the page again, the row with the Originality Report is added but the pending row is also kept.

The issue can easily be fixed by clicking the refresh button for either row (although clicking refresh submissions at the top won't fix this) in the Submission Inbox. The problem has been fixed completely in the Moodle Direct version 2 plugin. Due to the infrequent nature of this issue, it is unlikely to be fixed in the Moodle version 1 plugin.
