Labels

The why of labels

Using labels is not only to make your course look pretty. Used sensibly, labels help to give your course structure, and thus make it more accessible. That they can make your course look better is just a bit of 'added' value. Each topic/week in your course comes with a box for a 'summary', which can be used like a top-level label. You can use this to put an image in, for example a banner, and/or a short summary of the contents of each topic/week. You can do all things with labels, too. Make a plan on how to use labels when designing your moodle site to make sure you achieve consistency and a look which makes it easier to find 'stuff'. You can find a short 'how-to' tutorial below.

The how of labels

Check your editing status. If you don't have editing turned on already, click on the “Turn editing on” button at the top right hand corner of the course page

    • Choose the topic/week where you would like to place your label.

    • Click the “Add a resource” drop-down menu at the bottom of the topic/week module.

    • Click “Insert a label.”

An HTML box appears, which you can use to add the content of your label. This HTML box is an editor which works similar to MS Word. It offers the same text editing and formatting facilities and media options like all other HTML editors you find in Moodle. Once you're finished with creating your label, click the “Save and return to course” button at the bottom of the page. Below is an illustration of the HTML editor.
