Assignment set up

The Moodle assignment activity has lots of different setting options. This does not need to put you off using it, on the contrary. For a standard electronic assignment submission, you can leave most settings at the default. For more specialised cases, the assignment drop box offers the necessary flexibility to accommodate a great variety of scenarios.

Description of standard set up procedure:

1 Click on 'Add an activity or resource' and choose 'Assignment' from the drop-down list.

2 Add a title and a description:

3 Set the start date and the due date

(click on the question marks to find out more about the settings related to each item)

In principle, all the other settings can be left at the default values (unless you want to use 'Marking Workflow' (which can be important for timing the release of grades to students). Some further settings you might want to check are:

Specify what the students can submit:

Please note: Online audio recording currently does not work in the Brookes Moodle environment. If you want the students to submit audio files, they will have to use sound recording software and upload the audio file as a file submission. In the 'Submission types' section you can also specify the maximum number and size of file(s) to be submitted.
