Position Overview:

Nature of position:

This is an entry-level position for students to learn how to do repairs and routine maintenance on motor vehicles, trucks, diesel-powered equipment, and construction/maintenance equipment to keep the fleet running to service the State Highways.

This position will teach you to maintain records, prepare reports, carry out instructions, communicate, and work effectively with others.

Nature of work:

The students will learn about a wide variety of equipment and vehicles at SHA. Students in this position will learn to perform maintenance and repairs on, but not limited to, Cars, Trucks, Construction Equipment, Road Maintenance Equipment, Small Engines, Gas and Diesel Engines, Brakes, Hydraulics, Fuel Systems, Electrical, Shop Safety, Steering/Suspension, Drive Trains, HVAC, and Preventive Maintenance.

Students will receive Mentoring, Training, and Coaching from Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technicians or another designated trainer.

Requirements:

This position requires knowledge of basic principles of operation & construction of diesel and gas-powered engines; knowledge of proper use, care, and maintenance of various standard hand tools; knowledge of repair and service concepts, principles, testing devices, tools, meters, etc. involved in the repair and servicing of heavy road maintenance equipment and vehicles.
